Buddhist Chants Music

Buddhist chanting made easy… Explore how Buddhist chants music can make you remember the two most important chants of Buddhists daily puja.

Namo Tassa Bhagavato Arahato… , Sammasambuddhassa… . I am humming the music of Vandana verses. It was tough on me the first few times trying to understand Vandana verses while following the other Buddhist to complete the chanting together. I learnt the hard way and Bro Daniel’s team has made it very simple for the new Buddhists and the Buddhist children through this Buddhist chant music. If now I can understand it, hum it and remember it, so can you!

D-kidz produces D-kidz Chant to assist children and adults to understand and remember the two important chants of Buddhists daily puja. They are Vandana (Homage) and Ti-sarana (Three Refuges). Both chants were creatively written into fun and catchy music. Buddhists chant “The Three Refuges” as a daily practice helps us recall the good qualities of the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha. It inspires and motivates us to tread in the footsteps of our teacher, Buddha.

Let us briefly discuss about Vandana and Ti-sarana. Both Vandana and Tisara chants are frequently chanted by Buddhists in temple or any place prior to any monk offerings (dana), Buddhist talks or Buddhist activities or even at Sunday Dhamma Class. During chanting the verses above, one after the other, their hands are held palm-to-palm out of respect.

What is Vandana?

Vadana is salutation to the Buddha and it is repeated three times. Each Pali verse is translated here for your understanding:

Namo Tassa Bhagavato Arahato
I pay homage to the Blessed One, the Worthy One
Sammasambuddhassa
The Fully Enlightened One

What is Tisarana?

Tisarana is a basic devotional of Buddhist faith. Each Pali verse is translated here for your understanding:

Buddham saranam gacchami
I go to the Buddha as my refuge.
Dhammam saranam gacchami
I go to the Dhamma as my refuge.
Sangham saranam gacchami
I go to the Sangha as my refuge.

Dutiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami
For the second time I go to the Buddha as my refuge.
Dutiyampi Dhammam saranam gacchami
For the second time I go to the Dhamma as my refuge.
Dutiyampi Sangham saranam gacchami
For the second time I go to the Sangha as my refuge.

Tatiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami
For the third time I go to the Buddha as my refuge.
Tatiyampi Dhammam saranam gacchami
For the third time I go to the Dhamma as my refuge.
Tatiyampi Sangham saranam gacchami
For the third time I go to the Sangha as my refuge.
